The Library at Alexandria Some 2,300 years ago, the library at Alexandria was the world's greatest center of learning. Today we know little about it. It is believed that a number of fires destroyed the library, including the books that had all been written by hand. These fires caused students and teachers to abandon Alexandria, the book depository and the 13 lecture halls that annexed it. |
